Sphote: A Creative Protest Against Terror
In keeping with India's established tradition of meeting violence with non violence and destruction with renewed creativity, Habiart Foundation will stage a creative protest using the medium of visual art.
Titled Sphote, a Sanskrit word meaning creative sound, the paintings are aimed at countering the act of violence and demolition (Visphote) with images related to peace.
Visual images are as powerful as reality and, once seen, cannot be easily destroyed. Thus the paintings designed by the artists are also a testament to the empathy felt by the global community with all those have suffered. In the words of an eminent artist, Satish Gujral, "art is the last defence of man against human follies."
Around 40-50 paintings will be exhibited on this theme. The paintings have been culled from works created by 158 artists at workshops, titled 'Sphote', held in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Shantiniketan, and Nepal in 2005.
Venue: In the Jakobshorn, Rhinehorn and Strela rooms.
